Diversity Statement

I believe that the position of Secretary is an indelibly important role within NCURA. Secretaries serve to maintain the histories and voices of the organization. They maintain the records, the decisions of the membership, and promote the trajectory of leadership. Serving as Public Relations Coordinator and Program Book Coordinator since 2022, I feel like I have gotten to see a small piece of the inter-workings of the position of Secretary. I see Secretary as my next step in getting more involved with NCURA. The role requires dedication to the membership it serves and pushes to keep that membership informed.

As a research administrator, I have all the normal desirable skills that would lend themselves to being a good secretary, i.e., attention to detail, list and task-oriented, and hardworking. However, I possess several skills I feel set me a part. I have an appreciation for history and the groundwork it lays for us to strive to do and be better. I believe this a vital trait in an NCURA Secretary. The position requires you to uphold and communicate the ideals that formed this organization. It also affords you the opportunity to appreciate what went into creating the organizational by-laws, the discussion meetings that are recorded in each set of minutes, and the need for clear communication with the membership.

That being said, I also understand the importance of change and consider myself to be improvement driven. I strive to streamline and improve all things within my personal and professional life. I see it as a “things are great, but could they be better?” mentality. Additionally, I communicate well with others and like to think outside the box. This allows me to take new and creative approaches to how I approach my roles. I believe these traits make me a great candidate as Secretary. I strive to be a part of the wheels to improve and move Region III forward. I appreciate your consideration!
